Team RECYCLED PARTS smashed it at the world’s biggest obstacle course race!
Double-lung transplant recipients Douglas Forbes and Janka Penther and their partners Mary Stuart-Forbes and Rob Hartwell as well as friend Tim Goodfellow braved the 20 miles and 200 obstacles at the Rat Race Dirty Weekend on Saturday 6th May.
Conditions were less than ideal with wind and rain and only the odd sunshine coming through but the team crossed the finish line after 8hrs of thick mud, freezing water and frightening heights. It was most definitely one of the toughest challenges for all of them – transplant recipient or not – but great team spirit, incredible dedication and the support from club members, family, friends and sponsors kept them going.
Douglas and Janka said ” we are very grateful to our donors and their families without whom this would have never been possible. We wanted to raise awareness for organ donation and money for the club, show how successful transplant can be and what you can achieve if you put your mind to it. Four years ago Douglas and I couldn’t even walk 20 yards without an oxygen tank – now we have just conquered 20 gruelling miles!! It’s amazing! ”
Together they raised over £1,000 for the club – well done all of you we are immensely proud of you!!
