British Transplant Games
The next British Transplant Games will take place in Oxford from 30th July – 2nd August 2025.
Every year we send a team of transplant patients to take part in the British Transplant Games, and eventually that is open to any organ recipient, with added events for live donors and supporters. No prior experience or ability is required to enter the games as the real goal is to have a great time, meet fellow transplanters with amazing stories and celebrate the gift of life that we’ve been given. Many of us approach the games as a social event, some as a way to gain fitness and others get competitive.
There’s a huge variety of activities on offer:
- Opening ceremony – transplant recipients from all over the country parade through the host city
- Sporting events including swimming, badminton, golf or even ten pin bowling (plus more!)
- Social events including a gala dinner
- The donor run (or walk) – a 5k or 3k fun run around the local area
It’s a fantastic experience and we’d love you to be a part of our team. Please contact our team manager Pete at team.harefield@harefieldhamsters.org.
European Transplant Sports Championships
The next ETSC will take place in Arnhem, Netherlands from 20th-27th July 2026.
Many Harefield transplant recipients have also competed at European Transplant Games, which are held every 2 years. Just like the British Games, these require no previous experience or ability – they are all about celebration.
Contact out team manager Pete for details, and keep an eye on our Facebook page or the European Transplant Sports Championships website for the latest news.
World Transplant Games
The next World Transplant Games will be held in Dresden, Germany from 17th – 24th August 2025, and selection will be based on performance in the 2024 British Transplant Games and 2024 European Transplant Sports Championships.
Some Harefield patients have also been lucky enough to be selected to represent Great Britain & Northern Ireland at World Transplant Games, which is also held every 2 years. The most recent 2023 games were held in Perth, Australia.
Selection for the World Transplant Games is through a panel and is based on previous performance at British and European Transplant Games. Do get involved if you’d like to be considered for the 2025 event!
